Cedar Bluff

Perched atop a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this new residence adds a modern twist to the classic Shingle Style. The house is anchored to the land by stone retaining walls made entirely of granite taken from the site during construction. Clad almost entirely in cedar shingles, the house will weather to a classic grey.

Chatham Residence

This new house is located on Chatham’s historic Main Street. Working within very tight zoning restrictions we were able to take advantage of a sloping site to accomodate the owner’s programmatic requirements. The street elevation uses many elements of the local vernacular such as the quoining, shutters, widow’s walk, and elaborate carved entry way to fit its context. A gambrel roof form was used to maximize interior volume within the very restrictive building height limits. The ocean side of the house is more loosely comprised of very large windows to take advantage of the view. The lower level of the house, using the contours of the site, opens onto a pool and entertaining terrace.
